December 31st, 2002
I have finally finished my review of The
Two Towers, part 2 of the Lord of the Rings. I also included the guide page
for the SF novel I am currently reading, A
Fire Upon the Deep, which I likely won't be finished until early January,
which means this is likely the last update of the year. Happy New Year
everybody!
December 23rd, 2002
I have reviewed the Christmas movie
The Preacher's Wife, and the live Leahy
Christmas Concert. Merry Christmas to everybody!
December 21st, 2002
My review of the movie Forrest Gump
is available, as well as what will probably be me last book review of the year
(only because I'm likely to be too busy to read much in the next week), the
Galaxy of Fear Book 6: Army of Terror.
December 17th, 2002
I have four new reviews tonight: two Galaxy of Fear books:
The Nightmare Machine, and
Ghost of the Jedi, as well as a
Republic graphic novel, Darkness, and the
latest Harry potter movie, Chamber of
Secrets.
December 13th, 2002
Another Galaxy of Fear review is up, for
Planet Plague.
December 11th, 2002
Going through the first six book of the Galaxy of Fear series means I really
have to keep up with the reviews! The second book,
City of the Dead, has now been
reviewed. I have also finally written my review of the IMAX film
Space Station.
December 9th, 2002
I have started reading the Star Wars Galaxy of Fear books, starting with
Eaten Alive.
December 5th, 2002
I have added a note on my re-visit of the mini-series
Jack and the Beanstalk. Also,
the review of the short story collection
Once Upon A Time is available.
December 2nd, 2002
The review for the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's
Avatar, Part 2, is now available.
November 28th, 2002
I have finally reviewed the live show of
Les Miserables.
November 25th, 2002
I have reviewed two books: Deep Space Nine's
Avatar, Part 1, and the Star Wars graphic novel
The Hunt for Aurra Sing.
November 21st, 2002
The reviews for Attack of the Clones
on IMAX, and yet another viewing of
The Fellowship of the Ring on
DVD! Also, I have added a few titles to the Star Wars Timeline, in the Jedi
Quest (The School of Fear and
The Shadow Trap) and Clone Wars sections,
as well as the final titles to the New Jedi Order (but no covers, yet).
November 18th, 2002
I have completed the review for the Tolkien book of poems:
The Lays of Beleriand. Also, I have
added two pages of Star Trek books, Avatar 1
and Avatar 2, which I will be reading next.
The Star Wars Timeline has been updated for the first time in a long time, with
the guide pages for the Clone War novel
Shatterpoint, the Young Boba Fett novel
Maze of Deception, and new covers for
the other two Boba Fett novels.
November 17th, 2002
Two more movies today: the SF spoof Galaxy
Quest, and the extended DVD version of
The Fellowship of the Ring
(finally!).
November 11th, 2002
I have made up my mind to update pages for movies that are already present
on this site, like my latest viewing of the James Bond film
The World is Not Enough. However,
the only new movies added to the site will be either SF, Fantasy, or five
stars, at least until I run out of space here at tripod.
November 8th, 2002
I have revisited the Star Wars graphic novel
Crimson Empire, for the second time.
November 5th, 2002
Two more SF movies tonight: Minority
Report and Reign of Fire.
November 2nd, 2002
Two fantasy book reviews today:
The Silmarillion Audiobook
and Green Rider. All sections of this
website have been updated with a subtly new style, removing the annoying
gradient in the text of the review, especially. There should be no more broken
links. The next phase of renovations begins... Finally, the search engine was
updated today.
October 31st, 2002
Two movie reviews today -both science fiction: ET
on DVD and The Time Machine.
October 26th, 2002
My review of The Green Mile will be
the last movie review in the non-SF and Fantasy sections. I may continue to
review five-star movies, and will definitely keep the Science Fiction (with the
AOTC DVD and IMAX coming soon) and
the Fantasy (with the LOTR DVD
also coming soon) sections running for the foreseeable future.
October 21st, 2002
The reviews for the movie
Beauty and the Beast, and for the Star Wars graphic novel
Zam Wesell are now available. I have also
rearranged a little bit of the Library. The Archive page is now gone, split into
two in the Science Fiction and the
Fantasy sections, and all books that
were not SF&F have been removed.
October 15th, 2002
I have finished and updated my review of Isaac Asimov's
Robots and Empire. The review for the
graphic story Jango Fett is also up.
October 12th, 2002
The review for the DVD release of
Monsters, Inc., is now available. The entire
Fantasy book section has also been fixed
of broken links, better background, and a more consistent structure, which is
readable by IE and Netscape (except, inexplicably, the index scripts). Finally,
the summary pages for Books and Movies have been updated, as well.
October 9th, 2002
The entire SF book section has been fixed of
broken hyperlinks and the Netscape problem, as far as I can tell. I am also on
the verge of removing all of my movie reviews, as I no longer have the time or
desire to continue with them. I have yet to make a final decision, though.
October 5th, 2002
The reviews for two comedies,
My Big Fat Greek Wedding, and the musical
Grease, are now available. The entire Star
Wars directory (now split in two) should be available without broken links
by now, including brand new guide pages for the
Galaxy of Fear books. Finally, the guide
page for my current book, Asimov's Robots
and Empire, is also up.
October 2nd, 2002
The review for the IMAX film Africa:
The Serengeti is now available.
September 29th, 2002
The review for the SF short story anthology
Nebula Winners Twelve is available.
September 27th, 2002
My review for the less-than-stellar Dark
Journey is now available. I have also added the guide page for my current
book, the short story anthology Nebula
Winners Twelve. I apologize for the many broken links in this site. I have
renamed a couple of directories, and am working on restoring everything. It
should be back together soon.
September 24th, 2002
I have reviewed the comedy movie Liar Liar.
September 20th, 2002
My short review for the movie
Message in a Bottle is up.
September 18th, 2002
The review for the SF -alternate history novel 1632
is available. I don't know why my javascript menus don't work in Netscape. I've
tried them on other domains, and on my hard drive, and they work perfectly. I'm
working on the problem, but if you're curious, you can access any of the reviews
from the summary pages for books or
movies.
September 16th, 2002
The review for the live show Rent is now up. The
fixed Netscape-capable pages don't look exactly the way I want them, but pretty
close. The site looks best with Internet Explorer. Start with the last eight New
Jedi Order books.
September 15th, 2002
I have posted the review for the mini-series
Jack and the Beanstalk. It has
also come to my attention that very few of the pages on this site work with
Netscape Navigator. I have found the problem in the html, but it will take a
while to fix, and I am using this as an opportunity to clean up some of the
existing pages. All pages posted from now on, however, will work with both major
browsers. Finally, the guide page is up for the next Star Wars New Jedi Order
novel: Force Heretic I: Remnant.
September 10th, 2002
The review for the Star Wars graphic novel
The Sith War is now available.
September 5th, 2002
The short review for Music of the
Heart is now available.
September 3rd, 2002
The review is now available for the graphic novel
Vader's Quest. I have also updated the
Timeline to include the
Galaxy of Fear young reader series,
since I will likely be reading them soon. They don't have individual pages yet,
because I don't have good quality cover scans. But expect that to change as I
obtain and read them. I have also reviewed the IMAX film
India: Kingdom of the Tiger.
August 31st, 2002
The long review for the longest Star Wars book,
Star by Star, is finished! I also added to the timeline the guide page for
the upcoming New Jedi Order e-book, Ylesia.
August 27th, 2002
I have reviewed the movie A Beautiful Mind,
and re-reviewed the Star Wars graphic novel Dark
Lords of the Sith. To reduce the size of this page, I've removed all notes
prior to August 2002 to its own page.
August 23rd, 2002
The review for the DVD version of V: The Final
Battle, is now available. I also altered the Archive
page a little, adding some commentary that I couldn't resist! Somehow, this shortened
the length of the page. Finally, I have added the guide page to Tolkien's
Silmarillion, because I've been intermittently
listening to the audio book of that story -unabridged- and will be soon finished!
August 19th, 2002
I have another review ready, for the thriller movie
Don't Say A Word.
August 18th, 2002
After a long absence (including a nice vacation), I have finally returned to
review the Star Wars novel Children of the
Jedi.
August 7th, 2002
I have reviewed the DVD Director's Edition of
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. I have also updated the
book and movie lists.
August 5th, 2002
The reviews for The Lord of the
Rings Movie Guide and the Tales of the Jedi graphic novel
The Freedon Nadd Uprising, are now
available.
August 1st, 2002
I have finished and reviewed the novel
Children of Dune.
July 24th, 2002
The review for the non-fiction
movie Trekkies is now up.
July 20th, 2002
The reviews for the fantasy
novel Soul of the Fire, and the Star
Wars novella, Darth Maul: Saboteur, are now
available. Also, the guide page for my next book, Children of Dune, is now available.
July 19th, 2002
I have reviewed the drama
movies A Walk to Remember, and Anne of Green Gables, the Sequel.
Also, I have renamed the IMAX section as a
Non-Fiction movie section, to take into account other non-fiction work that
I decide to review.
July 16th, 2002
The reviews for the two bounty
hunter graphic tales, Boba Fett: Twin
Engines of Destruction, and Kenix
Kil, are now available.
July 13th, 2002
I have added some feelings about
the special features on the Dune mini-series
DVD, which I had not watched at the time of the original review. Also, I have
finally put up a short review of Episode
II, since I saw it for the second time a full week ago! And I have reviewed
two of the four stories in the Bounty Hunters graphic novel, Aurra Sing, and Scoundrel's Wages.
July 9th, 2002
The review for the graphic novel Knights of the Old Republic
is available. I have also added the guide page to another non-fiction book that
I am perusing, Then Lord of the Rings
Official Movie Guide, and have made some changes to some of the Star Wars guide pages, including the
addition of the Bounty Hunters graphic stories, and changing the ongoing comic
series to its new name of Republic.
July 8th, 2002
I've finally written my review of
the novelization of Attack of the
Clones. Also please note that the search engine has
been updated.
July 3rd, 2002
I've read and reviewed the second
Tales of the Jedi graphic novel, Fall
of the Sith Empire. I have also reviewed the DVD version of the Dune miniseries. And there has been yet
another new Star Wars junior novel announced: Master of Disguise. Finally, the
guide page for the book I'm currently reading, Soul of the Fire, by Terry Goodkind, is
up.
June 26th, 2002
I went back in time and decided
to reread the Tales of the Jedi series of graphic novels. The first one, The Golden Age of the Sith, has
been reviewed. I also reviewed the comedy movie Princess Diaries. And there have
been three new Star Wars books recently unveiled: a cool-looking classic-trilogy
book, Tatooine Ghost, the third
Jedi Quest novel, Dangerous Games, and
the second book in the Young Boba Fett series,
Crossfire!. The
guide pages for these books are available.
June 22nd, 2002
I added the reviews for the IMAX
film Legend of Loch Lomond, and
the Star Wars novel, The Approaching
Storm. Also, I "accidentally" watched Harry Potter and the Philosopher's
Stone again. Accidentally? How did I manage that?
June 17th, 2002
Nothing important; I fixed a
bunch of broken or insecure links today.
June 15th, 2002
No reviews today, but I have done
some reorganizing, again, of the site. Just because! I have removed the
mini-series section, and have dispersed those films into their general
categories. I have also split the Science Fiction and Fantasy movie
section into two: Science Fiction, and Fantasy, bringing it into line with the
book sections. I especially like the Fantasy banner! Of course, there are a few
movies that we might argue about categories... I also moved some movies in
from other sections, which were long overdue. Enjoy! Finally, I updated the
Summary pages, for Books,
Movies, and Live shows.
June 13th, 2002
The review of the Harry
Turtledove's second colonization book, Down to
Earth, is now available, along with my fourth visit to Anne of Green Gables, this time on
DVD..
June 5th, 2002
The reviews for the two IMAX
films, The Human Body, and The Old Man and the Sea, are
available.
June 3rd, 2002
I have finally put up my review
for the live show Riverdance, and the DVD
movie Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
May 31st, 2002
The reviews for the novel Ancient Shores, and the Spider-Man movie are now available. The guide
page for my current read, the Colonization book
Down to Earth, is also available.
May 29th, 2002
I have reviewed the classic movie The Road Warrior.
May 24th, 2002
I have added the review for the
mini-series Dinotopia.
May 22nd, 2002
The reviews for the Jedi
apprentice novels, The Captive Temple,
and The Day of Reckoning, are now
available. I have also put the guide page up for the book I am currently
reading, Ancient Shores.
May 20th, 2002
The review for Attack of the
Clones, the movie, is now available! I have also updated the Star Wars
book timeline, based on information that I have gleaned from recent books. The updates are subtle, and not likely very noticeable (in the Jedi Apprentice
and New Jedi Order sections).
May 17th, 2002
The review for the next Jedi
Apprentice novel, The Captive Temple, is up. And I am going to see Attack
of the Clones tomorrow night! I can't wait!
May 15th, 2002
I have reviewed the Star Wars
graphic novel Twilight, and the young reader novel Defenders of the Dead.
May 13th, 2002
The reviews for the fantasy book Wyrd Sisters, and the Star Wars Jedi
Apprentice novel The Mark of the Crown,
are up.
May 12th, 2002
I have added the reviews for the movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
I don't know why I had that movie in the drama section -it really belongs where
I put it now, with the other action movies. The guide page for the Star
Wars New Jedi Order novel Destiny's Way
is also available.
May 2nd, 2002
I added the image for the Attack of
the Clones graphic novel, as well as the guide page for the fantasy book I am
currently reading, Wyrd Sisters.
April 30th, 2002
I have completed the Darksword
Trilogy with Triumph of the
Darksword, not such a triumph in my opinion. I also finished my
pre-Attack of the Clones Star Wars movie refresher (not that I need one, but
it's always a good excuse!) with Return of the Jedi. Finally, I bought the DVD for Moulin Rouge,
which requires another review!
April 23rd. 2002
The review for Doom of the Darksword is finally up.
Also, I have added the guide page for Star Wars: The New Jedi Order: Traitor. Is that Anakin on the cover?
April 15th, 2002
Three new reviews today, along
with real summer weather (up to 28 C tomorrow!): The novel Forging the Darksword, the
nonfiction book Tolkien's Ring, and
the mini-series Mists of Avalon.
April 9th, 2002
I have reviewed the Star Wars
graphic novel Emissaries to Malastare, and the movie O.
April 5th, 2002
The review for E.T.: The
Extraterrestrial is up. I have also updated the search engine for keyword
searching (even though I haven't had a search for three months), as well as the
three summary pages: Book, Movie and Live.
April 3rd, 2002
I have reviewed the New Jedi
Order novel Rebirth, and the movie The General's Daughter. Also, the Rogue
Squadron comics have finally all been reviewed with the addition of Requiem for
a Rogue to my list.
March 31st, 2002
The reviews for two incredible
movies are up: Moulin Rouge and The Empire Strikes Back!
March 26th, 2002
I have reviewed the New Jedi
Order book Conquest. Also, continuing
with my retro-reviews of graphic novels, here is the one for the Rogue Squadron Warrior Princess collection.
March 22nd, 2002
After four days of being sick
and miserable, unable to concentrate even to watch a movie or read pages of a
book or magazine, I am back up to speed. I have reviewed the novel The Robots of Dawn, and the movie Clear and Present Danger. Also, I also added an extended summary and review of the comic Battleground: Tatooine, which
never had a before full review.
March 15th, 2002
The reviews for the movies Aliens
and Stepmom are now available. Also,
the Bravenet counter should be working again, and I added the guide page for
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the
Clones!. Finally, I have introduced
part-marks! I was very reluctant to do so, but my latest novel pushed me
over the edge. Some things do not fit into my very rigid categories.
So I have begun to retroactively rate the movies that I know deserved an extra
push in either direction. I have not yet completed the new ratings page,
but expect it up sometime soon.
March 11, 2002
I have added the review of the live show Lord of the Dance,
and the mini-review of the Star Wars guidebook,
The Essential Chronology. I also added an extended summary and review
of the comic The Phantom Affair, which
never had a full review before.
March 8th, 2002
The site that keeps track of visitors temporarily went down a
short while ago, meaning the index page was not able to load under certain
conditions. Bravenet is dealing with the problem, but I have fixed the
loading problem for now. The counter should be back after the weekend. The latest review,
however, Die Hard with a Vengeance, is
now up.
March 3rd, 2002
This was not a good weekend, ratings-wise! All four items received the
same rating, though some were better than others. In order of bad to good,
here are the reviews for the IMAX film Yellowstone,
the Star Wars prequel novel Cloak of
Deception, the Star Wars graphic novel
Underworld: The Yavin Vassilika, and the IMAX film The First Emperor of China. As far as IMAX films go, I think the festival this month will keep me quite busy!
February 28th, 2002
The review for Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves is up.
February 25th, 2002
I have finally finished my review for Darth Maul: Shadow
Hunter.
February 21st, 2002
I have added the review for the Star Trek book A Stitch in
Time, and the guide page for the
graphic novel Jedi vs. Sith (it was delayed because I was hoping the cover was inaccurate;
unfortunately, it looks like the cover art, at least, will really look like
that). I also made a couple of small additions to the Darth Maul comic and
Wild California.
February18th, 2002
I have added the reviews for the Darth Maul
graphic novel, and for the IMAX film Wild
California. Recently, I discovered three reviews of live concerts that I wrote years and years
ago. After some debating, I decided to put them up, regardless of the
inferior quality of the writing and style. It does, after all help bolster
the size of the infant section. The reviews are for the 1989 Debbie
Gibson concert, and the 1992 concerts given by Bryan
Adams and John Mellencamp.
February 14th, 2002
The review for Harry Turtledove's Second Contact is up. I also replaced
(finally) the poor quality image for the IMAX film Cirque du Soleil: Journey of
Man, and added the guide page for the book I'm currently reading, Garak's
own A Stitch in Time, a Star Trek DS9
novel.
February 8th, 2002
I have placed my reviews of the mini-series Random
Passage, the movie A Walk
to Remember, and my 72nd viewing of Star Wars: A New Hope online.
Also, I have two new guide pages up for the Star Wars universe: Boba Fett
book 1, The Fight to survive, and
finally ATTACK OF THE CLONES!
February 4th, 2002
I have reviewed another Star Wars graphic novel, the prequel Jedi Council:
Acts of War, and added the guide page to the final Jedi Apprentice novel,
the special edition The Followers. Also, my review of The Glass House is up.
February 1st, 2002
I made a few cosmetic changes to the front page of the site, and to some of
the "list" pages that appear to the left of the screen. I also
added the guide pages for two Star Wars Jedi Quest novels, The Way of the
Apprentice and Trial of the Jedi, and for the
SF book I am currently reading, Harry
Turtledove's Second Contact. Finally,
I have finally found the old Gavin Darklighter's Holocron, which has changed
names to the Swamp-Wampa
Holocron! Glad the author made it to a new site after fan.starwars.com
shut down, because he had a great site!
January 29th, 2002
I have finally reviewed Balance Point. I also
transferred all the "notes" for 2001 onto its own page, shortening this one.
January 28th, 2002
The reviews for the movies Inventing the Abbotts and Being John Malkovich are
up.
January 25th, 2002
I have reviewed my second viewing of The Fellowship of the
Ring, and also the
Star Wars book Jedi Eclipse. Finally, I have updated the Star Wars timeline
with a bunch of new Prequel titles.
January 18th, 2002
The review for the New Jedi Order book Hero's Trial is up! I have also made some minor (barely noticable) changes to the Young
Indiana Jones section, and have updated the Welcome
letter to reflect the current home of the Ossus Library here at tripod.com.
January 16th, 2002
I have reviewed the IMAX film Shackleton's
Antarctic Adventure, and the non-fiction book The
Making of Dune (the movie).
January 11th, 2002
I am very late with this latest review of The
Phantom Menace on DVD, but here it is, with a new cover scan! I have
also finished reviewing my second shot at The
Truce at Bakura. I decided to review three Stargate novels
that I found lying around (I read them years ago), before I gave them away to the local library.
So here are some short summary/ reviews of Rebellion, Retaliation, and Retribution.
Enjoy! Finally, the Ossus Jedi Library is back, moved away from the
now-defunct fan.starwars.com network. Check
it out.
January 1st, 2002
Happy New Year, and welcome to the year 2002! For the new year, I have
a review of a DVD I received for Christmas -Star Trek: The Motion
Picture.
I have also reviewed JRR Tolkien's Unfinished
Tales. Finally, I am
removing the fantasy book Dragons of Summer Flame from my bookshelf, so I sat
down, flipped through it, and wrote a short review, mostly in the form of an
extended summary. Enjoy!
