A team moves through an ancient dimensional porthole to a planet where the sun god Ra still gives the orders, and stirs up rebellion.

Excellent storytelling.  It really adds to the movie, giving hoards more background. However, it is written as a movie, without the structure of the novels I love. Still quite riveting, though I knew the whole story. Luckily, I had forgotten a lot of it.
