I can't see that I enjoyed part 2 any better than the last time. I felt it was rather diluted, and though the special effects were incredible, I didn't feel the power of the Muad'dib religion that I should have. His change from a survivor to a freedom fighter to seeking revenge was believable, but not amazing. His love story with Chani was also passable, but not amazing. The final battle, while it had some great moments, also left me wondering why it felt so underwhelming and over too fast. It's strange to say in such a long movie, but eveyrthing felt underutilized. Still, it's an amazing story, and one I'll return to, of course.

The movie is once again visually spectacular. However, I found it lacked the meat of the previous incarnations, strangely enough, though those were deficient in other ways. I admit that I was annoyed by the changes the director made, though I also understand the need and desire to create something unique. It took me a while to understand that it was necessary to collapse the timeline (eliminating little Leto and Alia as a child), but I can accept that now. Paul's and Chani's attitudes were reversed, and I had a harder time with that. While I liked the black-and-white of Ghedi Prime, I didn't find Feyd as interesting as in previous incarnations. Still, with such a strong story, it still impresses, though the middle lagged a bit as they got away from the main story. Afterward, it reminded me of the first time I watched The Two Towers, where I'd been so enthused by The Fellowship of the Ring that I was disappointed by the fundamental changes they made to the story. In the end, I still love that movie. I think I have to watch this one again to get a better sense of it.
