A huge regression from the previous movie, with mostly hand-to-hand fighting that makes no sense, and poor choices by the writers. The best scenes come at the beginning, especially with Eric's fall because of the metal-workers. After they gather to fight the evil eternal god things started to fall apart.

It was interesting how they set up everything in this movie, especially the characters. I was surprised to see how ineffectual Charles was, given his powers, but that's probably because he's reluctant to use them. Meanwhile, Jean Grey is set up really well, in her inability to control her nightmares, followed by her freezing when needed most, and finally to her being the only one capable of destroying the villain. The villain himself was so powerful that it was very interesting to see the other weaker mutants try and take him on. It's no wonder Magneto leaves society in the next movie. I still like the speed guy.

Like all of these action superhero movies, this one gives us unending stylized violence, an underworld that proves unloyal, and something akin to the end of the world. The plan develops at break-neck pace, with no time to stop for story. The ending gives us way too much for little gain, and seems repetitive, though it's fun in its own way. I liked the development of Phoenix, but putting Xavier unconscious again through the plot to destroy the world happens way too often here.
