As the lords of the Stargates fall to immorality, their gates are closed so that it does not spread; one lord sacrifices physical form to take over the bodies of people in another world.

This was not the book I was expecting (from high school), but it was very pleasant to read.  The dialog was a little stilted, but the story was solid, and the characters were great and realistic. Quite interesting, actually.
